Galen Tidd is passionate about taking the love and truth of Jesus Christ to people both near and far. He has a particular heart for children and utilizes his extensive background in sports/recreation as his primary means of communicating the heart of God. Since 1996, Galen has been on staff at Calvary Baptist Church in Recreation and Sports Outreach Ministries. In his capacity as Assistant Director of the Christian Activity Center (CAC) Galen has helped to redirect the focus of Calvary's recreation and sports ministries outward. Galen is also the Director of Discovery Quest, a 10-week summercare program which he started at Calvary soon after coming on staff. Now in its fourteenth year, Discovery Quest serves 250 kids from throughout the community each summer. Extending further outward, Galen coached for five years in Hoops4Him (H4H), a citywide interdenominational basketball outreach. He soon became part of the H4H Leadership Team, bringing valuable gifts and insight which have helped H4H reach more and more students. Galen currently serves as the H4H Scheduling Director, but he consistently goes above and beyond in his service. In addition to H4H, Galen has helped to implement sports outreaches at local city recreation centers and schools through a partnership with Full Circle Foundation and Calvary's 'Love Winston-Salem' initiative. Extending still further outward, Galen has organized and conducted sports camps in North Africa, the Middle East, and other parts of the world as part of a variety of overseas missions efforts. Born and raised in Maine, Galen graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible in 1986 with a double major in Camping/Youth Ministries and Bible. After his graduation, Galen returned to Maine where he began coaching in the public school system at the Junior High level. Just prior to coming to Calvary, Galen was part of the coaching staff for a two-time state championship high school varsity team in Maine. Galen has been married for 10 years to his wife Jenny and they have two children Nathaniel and Elijah. |
